New paper on the importance of having taxonomic names PDF Print E-mail

Together with Olivier De Clerck from the University of Ghent in Belgium, a short position paper on the importance of having scientific names for detected taxa was published in the new European Journal of Taxonomy. The paper is entitled 'No Name, No Game'. It was as much fun writing it as it was to put our name on it. If interested, discover it on the site of the EJT or get the pdf here.

Claude together with a Mexico-based Belgian colleague just released a new paper on the deep-water sea cucumbers off the Pacific coast of Mexico. Perhaps we should start counting the number of new species described per nationality of descriptor? Surely, Belgium shall rank with the Big Five;-)

In Belgium, today was the last day before the carnival holidays...Traditionaly school children then go to school in a costume; a witch, a gnome, a princess, etc.

We decided to act normal and went on with our business of digitizing ossicles of aspidochirotid type specimens, but today we put on a slightly more joyful outfit that we received from Aurore, a GTI/ABIC student from Ivory Coast.

Oh yes, the little dance performed is on the occasion of our finding of this 'snow-flake' ossicle in the cloaca of Stichopus japonicus var. typicus.

Thanks to an unforeseen external source of funding, we are now in the lucky position to get two extra hands to work on our site. We welcome Kristien, technical expert at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels, who will be uploading many bits in the coming weeks.
